Config Compress Helps

General

• Name

Change the name for your archiving files, or you can choose one of the suggested names below.

• Folder

Choose the folder destination that you want to save your compressed files. Your compressed files also appear in the Library.

• Set Password

Encrypt archiving files with a password. For security reasons, we recommend you use a password of at least 8 characters and not use the common words.

Setting

Create your own settings. You can create settings for work documents, personal documents,…

Example:

– Work documents settings: you need to send files to co-workers, so you choose .zip as archiving file types, select small sizes like 8MB or 16MB, and you want to delete files after archiving. So you create a new settings name “Work documents” or “Setting for work document”, so on the next times, you only need to choose this setting and compress your files and send, no need to custom a lot of parameters of setting.

• RAR, ZIP or RAR 4.x

These is types of archiving files.

• Percent Recovery Record

Restore Record is a special feature, when activated, it will help users to protect and recover corrupted compressed files (due to large capacity, transmission lines when sharing …).

Normally, Percent Recovery Record is number 3. However, increasing the number of Restore Record to a higher also means the file will be heavier, the compression time is longer and the file after compression is also larger than the original file.

• Volume Size

You are trying to send document files to friends but the size is too large, it is difficult to share through the internet, you need to split your archiving file into many files. You use the Volume Size feature to set the size of the file you want to split.

• Test archived files

Verify archived data and report errors if found.

• Use BLAKE2 file checksum

File data integrity in the RAR archive is protected by checksums calculated and stored for every archived file. By default, we use the CRC32 function to calculate the checksum. RAR 5.0 archive format also allows you to select the BLAKE2sp version of the BLAKE2 hash function instead of CRC32.

• Delete files after archiving

If archiving has completed successfully, original files will be deleted.

• Create solid archive

Solid archive is an archive packed with a special compression method, which treats several or all files within the archive as one continuous data stream. We support solid mode only in RAR archiving format, ZIP archives are always non-solid.

Solid archiving significantly increases compression when adding a large number of small, similar files

It is not recommended to use solid mode if you plan to update an archive in the future. Also, solid archives are more sensitive to data damage. Unlike usual archives, all files after the damaged one most probably will also be damaged.
